INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Jaideep Dahiya stands as a prominent figure in the world of Indian Kabaddi, recognized for his prowess as a right-raider with the Haryana Steelers in the Pro Kabaddi League. His journey into the sport began at a tender age, where he first honed his skills in a local stadium during his eighth standard while practicing cricket. Surrounded by aspiring athletes, Vinay received invaluable coaching from experienced players in his hometown, which ignited his passion for Kabaddi and set the foundation for his future accomplishments.
As Vinay’s commitment to Kabaddi deepened, he took a significant step by enrolling at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana. His dedication paid off as he emerged as a key player for the university’s Kabaddi team, competing in various national tournaments. One of his most notable achievements came during the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championship in 2019-20, held in Mangalore. Here, Vinay showcased his talent as the primary raider, amassing an impressive 54 raid points that not only propelled his team to victory but also earned him the distinction of being the tournament’s top scorer.
In 2019, Vinay’s professional career took a significant leap when he joined the Haryana Steelers for the Pro Kabaddi League season 7, acquired for Rs 7.26 lakh during the auction. He made his debut against Puneri Paltan on July 22, 2019, in Hyderabad. Over the course of that season, Vinay participated in all 23 matches, accumulating 125 raid points and positioning himself among the top 15 raiders in the league. His performances were noteworthy, achieving six Super raids, three Super 10s, and contributing four tackle points, further solidifying his reputation alongside renowned players such as Pawan Sehrawat, Pardeep Narwal, and Siddharth Desai.
Retained by the Haryana Steelers for the following seasons, Vinay continued to demonstrate his value to the team. For PKL season 8, the franchise secured him for Rs 25 lakhs, where he played in 15 matches, successfully achieving 51 raid points from 96 raids. The 2022 season saw him similarly retained for Rs 25 lakhs, and through his participation in 15 matches, he executed a total of 53 raids, garnering 33 raid points. In July 2023, Vinay expressed his admiration for teammates, particularly favoring Manjeet Dahiya as his top raider while holding Jaideep Dahiya and Mohit Nandal in high regard as his preferred defenders. His journey in Kabaddi took another promising turn as he was retained by the Haryana Steelers for the upcoming PKL season 10 in 2023.
Throughout his career, Vinay has drawn inspiration from legends of the game, specifically Rakesh Kumar and Anup Kumar, who have influenced his aspirations in Kabaddi. However, his path was not without challenges; in a candid moment during an interview, he revealed that there was a period when he struggled with his performance and even contemplated stepping away from the sport. This introspection, however, only fueled his determination to succeed, an attitude that continues to drive him forward in his Kabaddi career.
