INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Vandana Vishwas’s journey is a testament to resilience and talent, beginning with a challenging start in life. Just two days after her birth in Korba, Chhattisgarh, a nurse inadvertently injected an unsterilized syringe into her left hip, leading to a septic infection. This unfortunate event resulted in chronic pain and partial immobility in her left leg due to septic arthritis, a battle she continues to face every day. Despite these physical challenges, Vandana’s spirit shone bright from a young age. Endowed with a remarkable voice, she captivated those around her, easily singing complex melodies by the tender age of four.

At the age of five, Vandana embarked on her musical journey, learning from esteemed teachers Pandit Parashuram Sharma and Mrs. Vimla Soni. Her early exposure to music was further enriched by performing bhajans with her brother during the Janmashtami festival, fostering a deep connection with her cultural roots. However, her path was not without obstacles; at eight years old, she faced serious tonsillitis that jeopardized her vocal cords, forcing her to refrain from singing for four long years while undergoing homeopathic treatment. Yet, even during this hiatus, her passion for music did not wane, as she actively participated in and won numerous local and regional singing competitions throughout her school years.

Vandana’s dedication to music culminated in her receiving the Sangeet Virashad degree from ABGMM Institute at the tender age of 16, an exceptional achievement considering her youth. While pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, she worked as a part-time singer at All India Radio, where her talent caught the attention of Ustaad Ahmed and Mohammed Hussain, both of whom became influential mentors in her journey into ghazal singing. Shortly after completing her degree in 1993, she was invited to perform on national television by Doordarshan, marking a significant milestone in her career. While at All India Radio, she collaborated with composer Mr. D.K. Gandhe, who played a crucial role as her mentor, further shaping her musical style.

Vandana’s career took numerous interesting turns as she initially chose to work as an architect in Dubai. However, her passion for music remained ever-present, inspiring her to blend Indian classical elements with various global musical genres, including Rock, Pop, Flamenco, and even Country. This eclectic style has allowed her to sing in multiple languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Punjabi, and Tamil, captivating audiences far and wide. In partnership with her husband, a fellow architecture student who co-produces her music, she created her debut album, “Meera – The Lover…”, which draws inspiration from the beloved 16th-century poet Meera. This album, along with subsequent works such as “Monologues” and “Parallels,” showcases her unique fusion of sound and storytelling.

Vandana has made a name for herself as a live performer since 2009, gracing stages at prestigious events like the Latin-Afro-South Asian Cultural Concert and the Canadian National Exhibition. Her powerful voice has often drawn comparisons to the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, showcasing her remarkable talent as an independent artist. Beyond her musical pursuits, she actively participates in social causes, using her art to raise funds for victims of natural disasters and human tragedies. Additionally, Vandana has taken on the role of teacher and principal at “Vandana’s School of Indian Music” in Mississauga, Canada, since 2007. Her love for nature and travel is well-documented on social media, where she shares snapshots of her culinary adventures and experiences, reflecting her passion for exploring the world around her. Vandana Vishwas continues to inspire and uplift through her music, embodying the spirit of a true artist who transcends boundaries and embraces life’s beautiful complexities.
