We’re sure that most of you will say – ‘there’s no such thing as a flexible career!’

And we get it – it’s partly true. How dare these companies take away most of our free time, the government takes the money we earn in tax and then makes us think we need to work more to make more money!

That was dramatic, but most people think of working as a chore. There are, however, some careers that will give you more flexibility than you realize.

Read on to find out more.

Physicians

Flexibility might not be the first thing that comes to mind for doctors.

We imagine them with packed schedules and long hours in hospitals – and more often than not, it’s true, but there are ways of getting around it. Some doctors work for a physician recruiter that can give more flexibility because you don’t have to go for strict hour contracts in the hospital.

Still, the reality can differ massively depending on the area of specialization and the work environment. For example, general practitioners and family doctors could have more say over their timetables, unlike hospital surgeons or physicians. Many prefer to work in private offices where they can choose their timeframe and even take breaks between seeing patients. And don’t get us started on how much more money they can make there.

Education

While teaching may appear inflexible thanks to school hours and academic calendars, this is not always true. It can be quite flexible.

Many teachers, particularly those in higher learning institutions, have schedules that provide a considerable amount of personal time for themselves. In fact, if you’ve been in higher education – they’re hardly ever there. Take professors, for instance, who sometimes have whole days at their leisure apart from having class schedules.

Distance learning has created even more teaching flexibility. Online course tutors, etc, can be based anywhere.

Tutoring is another avenue that offers remarkable flexibility. Tutors can set their hours and work with students in-person or online, tailoring their schedules to fit their personal needs and preferences. There’s actually a lot of money to make there.

Freelance Writers and Content Creators

If you want a flexible job, go freelance. Yes, you might think it’s not as easy, but you can do online courses.

Writers have the freedom to choose their projects, set their deadlines, and work from virtually anywhere with an internet connection. The self-employed nature of these jobs allows them to plan the day how they like, whether they are night owls or early birds.

Digital media has only expanded these opportunities. Bloggers, YouTubers, and social media influencers can build careers around their passions, often turning hobbies into lucrative professions.

This variety helps make the job more exciting and provides a cushion against the unpredictability associated with freelance work.

Yes, believe it or not, you can enjoy your work. You don’t necessarily have to work in a role with a strict schedule. You can easily find jobs that’ll give you almost total flexibility.
