INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Sudhir Chaudhary is a prominent Indian journalist whose career has spanned several key positions within Hindi and Marathi news channels, including an influential role as the senior editor and business head at Zee News. His journey into journalism was not initially a planned path; prior to immersing himself in the media landscape, he aspired to become a civil servant and dedicated time to preparing for the UPSC Examination. Despite his efforts, he was unable to clear the exam, which ultimately redirected his professional ambitions toward the dynamic field of journalism.
Chaudhary’s association with Zee News began in 1993, shortly after the channel’s inception. During his tenure, he reported on a multitude of significant national events, including the Kargil War and the harrowing 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament. His reporting prowess was notably evident during the historic meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad, following the terrorist attack. After a decade with Zee News, Sudhir departed in 2003 to play a pivotal role in launching Sahara Samay, the Hindi news channel of the Sahara group. His versatile career also saw him briefly joining India TV and later becoming the Editor-in-chief at Live India, before returning to Zee News in 2012. Upon his return, he became a household name by hosting the highly regarded prime-time news show, Daily News & Analysis (DNA).
In 2012, Sudhir’s career encountered turbulence when Congress MP Naveen Jindal accused him and his colleague Sameer Ahluwalia of attempting to extort ₹100 crore in advertisements from his company in exchange for withholding stories associated with the Coalgate scandal. This controversy did not overshadow his achievements, as the same year, he was honored with the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism in the “Hindi broadcast” category. This accolade recognized his impactful interview with a friend of the Delhi December 16 gang-rape victim, highlighting his commitment to sensitive social issues.
After a successful run, Sudhir Chaudhary stepped down from his role as CEO of Zee Media on July 1, 2022. The announcement was made public through a statement from Zee Media Corporation Ltd, confirming that he would cease to be the CEO and key managerial personnel effective at the close of business hours. However, his career took another notable turn in March 2025, when he made headlines once more by joining DD News. Reports indicated that Prasar Bharati had signed a contract with him, aiming to leverage his extensive expertise to revamp the news channel, further underscoring his influential position in Indian journalism.
