INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Siddhant Sharma, an emerging talent in the Indian music scene, is widely recognized by his stage name, Calm. As a multifaceted artist, he has made significant strides as both a rapper and music producer. His journey into the world of hip-hop began in 2016 when he teamed up with fellow artist Abhijay Negi, known as Encore ABJ, to form the influential hip-hop duo ‘Seedhe Maut.’ Their collaborative spirit and shared passion for music have since shaped their careers and the broader landscape of Indian rap, as they infuse their tracks with themes that reflect the complexities of politics, society, romance, and the education system.
From an early age, Siddhant was captivated by the rhythm and poetry of rap music. His aspirations took root during his school and college years, where he eagerly participated in open mic events, showcasing his budding talent. His first major recording came during his graduation, when he released the track “Invasion.” This initial success was followed by another track titled “Conscience” in 2015, which he uploaded to the online platform SoundCloud, marking his entry into the digital music space. It was in 2015 that Siddhant also took the stage for the first time at the Spit Dope underground battle rap league in Delhi, where he met Abhijay Negi, setting the foundation for their partnership in ‘Seedhe Maut.’
The duo officially formed in 2016, adopting the name ‘Seedhe Maut,’ a slang term often used in Delhi that Siddhant explains as meaning ‘to rock’ or ‘to nail,’ a phrase popularized by his elder brother. That same year, they launched their YouTube channel and released their debut mixtape, “2 Ka Pahada,” which features seven tracks, including fan favorites like ‘Seedhe Maut Anthem,’ ‘Royalty,’ ‘Classsikh Maut,’ and ‘Hanging On.’ Their music quickly gained traction, leading them to sign with Azadi Records in 2018, where they produced a series of hit singles such as ‘Kranti,’ ‘101,’ ‘Dum Pishaach,’ and ‘Do Guna.’
Siddhant and Abhijay’s debut album, “Bayaan,” released in 2018, offers a glimpse into their personal life stories through a compilation of twelve tracks, produced by Sez on the Beat. Among the standout tracks are ‘Shaktimaan,’ ‘Meri Baggi,’ ‘Pankh,’ and ‘Kyn,’ with Siddhant expressing a particular fondness for ‘Meri Baggi’ and ‘Pankh.’ Their creativity continued to flourish with the release of the album “न” in 2021, featuring ten tracks, each beginning with the letter ‘N.’ In 2022, they launched “Nayaab,” a reflection of their success following “Bayaan,” which includes seventeen tracks and highlights their evolution as artists. The duo’s rising popularity was further underscored by their appearances on shows like “Hustle 2.0” and “Red Bull Spotlight,” as well as electrifying performances on platforms like Bigg Boss 16.
While Siddhant was initially known as “Calmchorr,” he later adopted the moniker “Calm” after the formation of ‘Seedhe Maut.’ His artistic journey also involved a significant transition in language; having begun rapping in English, he realized that he could better express his potential and authenticity in Hindi. This revelation came to fruition when he penned his first Hindi verses for the track ‘Classikh Maut volume 2’ in 2018. Through his music, Siddhant Sharma continues to resonate with audiences, carving out a distinct space in the vibrant tapestry of Indian hip-hop.
