By the late 1960s, he was already making his mark as a Municipal Councillor for the Davanagere municipality, and throughout the 1980s, he held the esteemed position of Treasurer for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) for over three decades, showcasing his significant influence within the party.
His political trajectory reached new heights in 1998, when he was elected as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the Davanagere constituency until 1999.
