Born into a family of lawyers, his grandfather was an advocate, while his father, Arvind Shriniwas Bobde, served as the Advocate General of Maharashtra in 1980 and 1985. His elder brother, Vinod Bobde, made his mark as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and earned a reputation as a constitutional expert. Bobde began his legal journey on 13 September 1978 when he enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra. Following his long tenure in Bombay, Bobde was appointed Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on 16 October 2012, a role he fulfilled until 11 April 2013.
