INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Prajakta Mali, a multifaceted talent in the Marathi entertainment industry, first showcased her prowess at the young age of 14 when she triumphed in the Hindi dance reality TV show ‘Kya Masti Kya Dhoom,’ which aired on StarPlus in 2001. This early victory set the stage for her burgeoning career in the world of performing arts. Following her captivating debut in Bollywood with the film ‘Swades’ in 2004, she continued to weave her magic on screen with a small yet noteworthy role in the 2007 film ‘Gandhi, My Father.’ These initial forays into acting laid a solid foundation for her impressive body of work in the years to come.
In 2011, Prajakta participated in season 5 of the Marathi dance reality show ‘Eka Peksha Ek — Apsara Aali’ on Zee Marathi, further solidifying her presence on television. The same year, she portrayed Suman in the Marathi film ‘Kho-Kho,’ alongside Bharat Jadhav, which marked her transition into more substantial roles. However, it was the 2013 Marathi television series ‘Julun Yeti Reshimgathi’ that catapulted her to fame, where she played Meghana Kudalkar Desai. Her engaging performance captured the hearts of viewers and marked a significant milestone in her career.
Mali’s cinematic journey continued to flourish with her compelling portrayal of Girija in the Marathi film ‘Hampi’ in 2017, earning her widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike. That same year, she took on the lead role of Nupur Suryakant Deshpande in the comedy TV show ‘Naktichya Lagnala Yaycha Ha,’ which was broadcasted on Zee Marathi, further showcasing her versatility as an actress. Beyond acting, she made her mark as a host, leading the Marathi comedy series ‘Maharashtrachi Hasyajatra’ across its first four seasons from 2018 to 2021 on Sony Marathi, and anchoring reality shows such as ‘Mast Maharashtra’ and ‘Indian Idol Marathi.’
In 2022, Prajakta added another feather to her cap by portraying Shrimant Bhavanibai Bandal in the film ‘Pawankhind,’ inspired by the life of the Maratha warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande. She has since starred in several notable Marathi films, including ‘Mahanayak Vasant Tu,’ ‘Party,’ ‘Dokyala Shot,’ ‘Luckdown Be Positive,’ ‘Y,’ and ‘Teen Adkun Sitaram.’ Her commitment to her craft was evident when she revealed in an interview that she gained 11 kg for her role as Ratna, a sex worker in her Marathi debut web series ‘RaanBaazaar.’ Alongside her acting career, she embraced entrepreneurship by launching her online jewellery shopping site, ‘PrajaktaRaj,’ and authored a Marathi language book titled ‘Prajaktaprabha.’
A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Prajakta was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture to pursue advanced studies in the dance form. Her dedication to personal growth is evident as she regularly practices yoga and meditation, influenced by her admiration for the teachings of Osho. With her presence gracing several magazine covers, including Sangam and Kohinoor, Prajakta Mali continues to be a dynamic force in the entertainment industry, captivating audiences with her talent and entrepreneurial spirit. In her personal life, she remains relatable, sharing candid moments from her experiences, including an instance where she caught her boyfriend in a lie, revealing the human side of this accomplished actress.
