INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Prabir Das embarked on his football journey in 2006, testing his skills at five different academies. His perseverance paid off in 2007 when he secured a place at Sail Academy, marking the beginning of his professional career. However, this promising trajectory faced an unexpected setback when tragedy struck; while playing for the India U19 team, Prabir’s mother fell seriously ill due to an LPG gas cylinder leakage. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the authorities granted him permission to return home, demonstrating the importance of family amidst his burgeoning sports career.
On October 31, 2011, Prabir made his debut for the India U19 team, stepping onto the field with determination and pride. His journey continued to ascend as he found his footing in the I-League, where on January 20, 2013, he scored his first goal against Shillong Lajong at the Salt Lake Stadium, clinching a vital victory with a solitary strike. Yet, the road was not without its hurdles; during a match against Prayag United in 2013, Prabir faced a life-threatening challenge when heatstroke caused him to lose consciousness on the pitch. The oppressive 37-degree temperatures led to hospitalization and breathing difficulties, highlighting the physical demands of professional sports.
Despite these challenges, Prabir’s resilience shone through. On March 29, 2015, he took another significant step in his career by debuting for the India U23 team in the AFC U23 Championship Qualifier against Syria. His contributions on the field were further solidified during the 2019-20 season, where he recorded five assists, the joint-highest for a defender, showcasing his dual ability to defend and support offensive plays. This impressive performance helped lead Atletico de Kolkata to win the Indian Super League title that season, a testament to his skill and dedication in the sport.
Beyond the pitch, Prabir’s character was evident when he stepped forward to support an ailing young fan of East Bengal FC in December 2019, providing financial assistance to a child suffering from severe pneumonia and multiple organ failure. This act of kindness highlighted his commitment to giving back to the community. In 2022, he made a strategic move to join Bengaluru FC in a swap deal with Ashique Kuruniyan, further expanding his career. His time with Bengaluru was marked by success, culminating in a victory at the 2022 Durand Cup.
In June 2023, Prabir took another significant leap by signing a three-year deal with Kerala Blasters FC, ensuring his presence at the club until 2026. He made his much-anticipated debut for the team on August 13, 2023, in a match against Gokulam Kerala during the 2023 Durand Cup. With each chapter of his career, Prabir Das continues to demonstrate his unwavering passion for football and his dedication to making a positive impact both on and off the field.
