INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Pooja Bhatt, an accomplished Indian actor, filmmaker, producer, and former model, has made a significant mark in the world of entertainment. Born as the eldest daughter of renowned Indian director Mahesh Bhatt, she grew up surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere of cinema. Interestingly, her aspirations took a different route in her early years; while in school, she dreamt of becoming an astronaut, showcasing her adventurous spirit. However, as a teenager, she was offered a film role by her uncle Mukesh Bhatt, which she declined at the time due to her then-boyfriend’s disapproval of her entering the film industry.
Despite the initial hesitation, Pooja Bhatt’s breakthrough came in 1991 with the Hindi film “Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin,” where she starred alongside the famous actor Aamir Khan. This film catapulted her to immense popularity, paving the way for a series of notable performances in films such as “Sadak” (1991), “Sir” (1993), “Kranti Kshetra” (1994), “Chaahat” (1996), and “Border” (1997). Beyond acting, she ventured into music, recording an English rap song titled “Just For Today” in 1993 for Indian music director Daboo Malik. Her versatility also extended to television; in 1996, she hosted the Hindi show “Mere Saath Chal,” further solidifying her presence in the entertainment landscape.
Pooja’s personal life has equally been a topic of interest. She has had notable relationships, including a live-in arrangement with actor Ranvir Shorey that sparked engagement rumors before they eventually parted ways. She later married VJ and businessman Munish Makhija, a union that ended in divorce. Amid her evolving personal journey, Pooja established her own film production company, “Pooja Bhatt Productions,” in 1996. The company produced several films, including “Holiday” (2006), “Dhokha” (2007), and “Kajraare” (2010). Furthermore, she ventured into direction, helming films like “Dushman” (1998), “Zakhm” (1998), “Jism” (2003), and its sequel “Jism 2” (2012), while also working as a production designer on projects like “Jism” and “Paap” (both in 2003).
After taking a hiatus from acting in 2001, Pooja made her return in the film “Sanam Teri Kasam” in 2009 and appeared in the documentary “Sunset Bollywood” in 2005. A remarkable fact about her filmography is that in twelve of her films, her character was named Pooja. In 2018, she further diversified her portfolio by acquiring the franchise rights for “Team Delhi Hoopers” in the 3BL Basketball League. More recently, Pooja made a special appearance in the much-anticipated sequel “Sadak 2” in 2020, although it did not achieve the expected success. Her acting prowess was showcased once again in 2021 with the Netflix series “Bombay Begums,” where she portrayed the character Rani. In 2023, she entered the reality television arena as a contestant in Season 2 of “Bigg Boss OTT,” streaming on JioCinema. Notably, Pooja has been a subject of scrutiny and speculation, with filmmaker Salim Khan reportedly advising Salman Khan against collaborating with her due to her controversial persona in the 90s. Despite the ups and downs of her career and personal life, Pooja remains a passionate animal lover, sharing her home with a pet dog and several cats, and she actively engages in social causes, such as joining Rahul Gandhi for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Hyderabad on November 2, 2022.
