INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Nomad Shubham’s journey began in the modest surroundings of Munger district in Bihar, where he grew up in a financially struggling family. His family’s legacy of resilience is embodied in his grandfather, a dedicated freedom fighter, while his parents worked tirelessly as farmers, cultivating mango trees and tobacco on their land. This backdrop of hard work and determination fostered Shubham’s early academic pursuits, as he initially studied at home before transitioning to a local school. His dedication to education paid off, allowing him to achieve an impressive 9.2 percentile in his class 10 examinations, showcasing his commitment to learning despite the challenges posed by his environment.
After completing his higher secondary education in Bihar, Shubham made a pivotal decision to move to Kota, a city renowned for its coaching institutes. There, he enrolled in a program to prepare for the highly competitive IIT-JEE exam. However, his time in Kota was not solely focused on academics; it was during this period that he discovered his passion for travel through random YouTube videos, including an inspiring TEDx talk about travel vlogging. Captivated by the idea of sharing his own experiences, he made the bold choice to drop out of the course just six months in, setting the stage for his travel vlogging career. As he explored various Indian locales, often keeping his adventures hidden from his parents, Shubham’s wanderlust intensified.
His first international venture came in August 2018 when he traveled to Russia. During this journey, he visited iconic landmarks such as the Red Square and the largest ISKON temple, and even camped overnight by the Barents Sea. This trip would become a defining moment in his life, as he also tried horse meat for the first time and later ventured to Kazakhstan. Upon returning home, the desire to document his travels led him to establish a YouTube channel in September 2019, where he began sharing vivid accounts of his experiences with a broader audience.
In January 2020, Shubham embarked on an adventure to Oymyakon, one of the coldest places on Earth. He recalled being dropped off by a trucker at 2 a.m., feeling cold and confused, and the subsequent kindness of a stranger who offered him shelter for the night. This profound encounter underscored his love for meeting people from diverse backgrounds, enriching his understanding of various cultures and languages. His travel budget is notably modest, around Rs. 500 a day, yet he has managed to explore approximately 40 countries, including Afghanistan, Cambodia, and the United States. His engaging videos often feature conversations with fellow travelers and local vendors, highlighting the universal connections forged through travel.
As his popularity grew, particularly with a viral video comparing train journeys in India and China, Shubham remained grounded, continuing to live with his family in their small village home. Despite aspirations for higher studies in Germany being stifled by financial constraints, he finds joy in simple pleasures, such as listening to Bollywood and Bhojpuri music, reading travel literature, and enjoying the company of animals, which he often shares on social media. Fluent in several languages, including Bihari, English, and Russian, Nomad Shubham embodies the spirit of adventure and discovery, proving that one’s roots can serve as a profound inspiration for exploration and connection in an ever-widening world.
