INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Neeti Mohan’s journey into the world of music began long before she graced the big stage. As a child, she was already a familiar face in her school, where her remarkable talent for singing earned her a plethora of prizes in various competitions, both at school and in inter-school contests. This early passion for performing arts was nurtured at home, where her love for music was further complemented by a cherished bond with her mother. Upon her successful completion of the 10th grade, her mother gifted her a beautifully crafted gold pendant inscribed with her name, a token that not only symbolized familial love but also marked a milestone in her young life.
During her college years, Neeti’s engagement with the arts blossomed even further. She immersed herself in an array of activities, including music, dance, dramatics, and even the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which contributed to the broadening of her artistic horizons. It was at this time that she experienced a defining moment; inspired by the timeless American film “The Sound of Music” and the evocative compositions of A. R. Rahman in films like “Roja” and “Bombay,” Neeti made a pivotal decision to pursue a career in music. She credits her college experience as instrumental in shaping her identity as an artist, providing an environment that fostered her creativity and passion.
To hone her skills, Neeti sought formal training in Hindustani classical music at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi, dedicating a decade to mastering the intricacies of singing. This rigorous training laid a solid foundation for her musical career, which took a significant turn in 2003. Her participation in “Channel V Popstars Season 2” culminated in a co-win that led to the formation of the band Aasma. This moment was transformative, propelling her from her roots in Delhi to the vibrant city of Mumbai, where she embarked on her professional music journey.
The year 2012 was particularly pivotal as Neeti released her first single, “Ja Ja,” with the encouragement and support of her father. It was also the year when she made her much-anticipated Bollywood debut, with her songs “Jiya Re” from “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” and “Ishq Wala Love” from “Student of the Year” garnering widespread acclaim and numerous accolades. Neeti’s relentless dedication to her craft is reflected in her routine; she never steps out without her recording bag, prepared to seize any opportunity that comes her way.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Neeti is an eco-conscious individual and an avid dog lover, sharing her life with a beagle named Frodo, named after her favorite Hobbit from “The Lord of the Rings.” She is known for her commitment to cleanliness, opting to avoid plastic bottles and even keeping a dustbin in her car to reduce waste. Among her many artistic achievements, she considers “Dhadaam Dhadaam” from the film “Bombay Velvet” the most challenging song of her career, showcasing her resilience and passion for musical excellence. As Neeti Mohan continues to evolve as an artist, her story remains an inspiring testament to dedication, creativity, and love for the craft.
