INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In the early 1980s, a humble household in Karnataka’s Sureban village was shaped by the tireless efforts of Hanamantappa Bhajantri, who gathered logs from nearby forests to sell at the local market in Belgaum district. This laborious endeavor was the sole means of sustenance for his family of eight. Despite being semi-literate, Hanamantappa and his wife faced numerous financial challenges, yet they remained steadfast in their commitment to providing their six children with a better future. They instilled in them the value of education, encouraging their children to work diligently and pursue their studies with vigor.
Among the Bhajantri siblings, Manjunath’s natural flair for mathematics emerged early on, catching the attention of his teachers by the fifth grade. This recognition paved the way for his admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Belgaum, where he excelled academically. His hard work culminated in an impressive achievement during his final school years, as he emerged as the class 12 board topper in Hyderabad. After completing his schooling, Manjunath faced yet another significant academic hurdle: the engineering entrance exam. Demonstrating remarkable resolve and self-discipline, he succeeded without any coaching and gained admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, where he pursued a degree in computer science engineering starting in 1997.
Upon graduating from IIT Bombay, Manjunath Bhajantri chose to embark on an entrepreneurial path rather than immediately entering the job market. He sought investors and founded a start-up focused on developing innovative text-to-speech software. However, the venture faced a setback when the investor withdrew, leading to the start-up’s unfortunate closure. Subsequently, he gained experience in the corporate world, working for prominent companies like Reliance and Infosys before deciding to pivot his career once again in 2009. Inspired by a desire to serve the nation, he undertook the rigorous preparation for the UPSC civil services examination, successfully passing it in 2010 and earning a position as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in the Karnataka cadre.
While his father hoped he would continue his journey within the IPS, Manjunath’s ambition led him to reappear for the civil services examination in the same year. This determination paid off when he qualified for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), receiving an allocation to the Jharkhand cadre. His career flourished as he held various significant positions, including serving as the Director of Handloom, Sericulture, and Handicraft in the Government of Jharkhand. He further contributed to the Modi government’s initiatives as private secretary to the Minister of State for Railways and as the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. In 2020, he was appointed as the deputy commissioner and district election officer (DEO) of Deoghar, Jharkhand, where he utilized his skills and experience to make a positive impact.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Manjunath Bhajantri finds solace in his hobbies, often strumming the guitar in his free time and practicing meditation to maintain balance in his life. He is also a fan of cinema, with “3 Idiots” being his favorite film, reflecting his appreciation for stories that resonate with the pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. Inspired by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manjunath continues to navigate his journey with ambition and dedication, embodying the values instilled in him from an early age.
