INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Babbal Rai’s journey through life has been marked by both triumphs and challenges. At a young age, he faced a profound loss when his father passed away while he was in the 10th grade. This early hardship shaped his resilience and determination, driving him to seek new opportunities. A passionate cricket player, Babbal’s skills on the field caught the attention of the renowned cricketer Yograj Singh, who encouraged him to move to Chandigarh. There, he enrolled in DAV College and honed his craft as a left-hand batsman, all while nurturing his burgeoning interest in music. In 2007, seeking to broaden his horizons, he made the significant decision to relocate to Australia, where new adventures awaited him.
His foray into music began somewhat serendipitously when he composed a song titled “Australian Challa” as a birthday present for a friend. After recording the song and posting a video on YouTube, Babbal found himself thrust into the spotlight as the track garnered widespread attention. The success of “Australian Challa” laid the groundwork for his music career, leading to a notable recognition when a song from the Bollywood film Crook (2010) drew inspiration from his creation. During his time in Australia, he continued to write music that reflected his personal experiences, leading him to pen the heartfelt “Niki Jahi Jind,” which resonated deeply with listeners, as it was inspired by his own life story.
While pursuing his musical aspirations abroad, Babbal also took on various jobs to support himself, including working as a cab driver for Sippy Grewal, the elder brother of fellow Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal. Despite his efforts, Babbal’s debut album, “Sau Putt,” released in 2010, did not achieve the fame he had hoped for, largely due to his inability to return to India for promotional activities. However, his perseverance paid off when he transitioned into acting, showcasing his versatility in the Punjabi film industry. In 2014, he took on dual roles as Pinki and Babbu in the film “Mr. and Mrs. 420,” further solidifying his presence in the entertainment realm.
Throughout his career, Babbal has forged strong friendships with other Punjabi artists, including Jassi Gill and Prabh Gill, forming a supportive network within the industry. His personal life took a significant turn in July 2025 when he married Aarushi Sharma in a beautiful ceremony that honored both Hindu and Sikh traditions. This union marked a new chapter in his life, complementing his artistic journey with a sense of fulfillment and companionship. Babbal Rai continues to carve out his path in the music and film landscape, driven by the experiences that have shaped him and the relationships he values.
