Despite struggling academically and facing expulsion from his history class due to his intense dislike for the subject, he found solace and purpose in music. At the age of 19, Amit joined a local band named ‘OM,’ which marked the beginning of his musical endeavors. The band performed at various local gigs, gradually honing their craft, which eventually caught the attention of Times Music, a prominent music production company. Although the band’s album did not achieve commercial success, this early experience laid the groundwork for Amit’s future in the industry.

A twist of fate led him to connect with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap through singer Shilpa Rao. Kashyap was in search of a fresh talent to compose music for his film “Dev D,” and Amit was chosen for this pivotal role. However, the film’s release faced delays, and Trivedi made his debut as a music composer with the 2008 film “Aamir,” featuring Rajeev Khandelwal. The following year, “Dev D” finally graced the screens, and its soundtrack became an instant sensation, earning rave reviews. The success of “Dev D” not only solidified Amit’s place in the music industry but also earned him the prestigious National Award for Best Music Direction, showcasing his remarkable talent.
