Aakash Chopra, a name that resonates in the annals of Indian cricket, made his mark on the international stage when he was called up to the Indian national Test cricket squad for the series against New Zealand in the 2003-04 season. Partnering with his Delhi teammate Virender Sehwag, Chopra stepped into the spotlight, showcasing his talent and determination as an opening batsman. In his debut series, he made a memorable impression by scoring two half-centuries during the second Test, laying the foundation for what many hoped would be a flourishing international career.
As the series progressed, Chopra’s skills were further tested during the tour of Australia later that same year. Displaying remarkable resilience, he built two century partnerships with Sehwag, solidifying his reputation as a reliable opener. His success continued on the tour of Pakistan, where he played a pivotal role in helping India post over 600 runs in the first innings of the first Test against their storied rivals.
