INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Subodh Kumar Singh’s journey began in a nurturing environment shaped by his father, an elementary school teacher, who instilled in him the values of education and perseverance. This foundational influence propelled Subodh toward academic excellence, culminating in his remarkable achievement in 1997 when he successfully passed the highly challenging UPSC examination. The following year, in 1998, he completed rigorous training, which paved the way for his first professional role as an Assistant Collector in the Mandla district. This position marked the beginning of a distinguished career in public service, characterized by a commitment to community development and governance.
As Chhattisgarh emerged as a separate state, Subodh Kumar Singh was entrusted with the significant responsibility of becoming the first District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer of Bastar. His leadership qualities were further recognized when he was appointed the Collector of Raigarh in 2002, a role that came with additional responsibilities as Managing Director of Markfed and NAN, as well as the Director of the Animal Directorate. His multifaceted expertise in administration played a crucial role in enhancing the operational efficiencies of various government departments during this transformative period for the state.
In 2005, Subodh returned to Raipur as the Collector and soon transitioned to the Collector of Bilaspur. However, his commitment to Raipur was not short-lived, as he soon resumed his earlier role in the district. Subodh is particularly noted for his instrumental role in the introduction of a city bus service in both Raipur and Bilaspur, a significant step towards modernizing urban transport and improving the quality of life for residents. His innovative approach and dedication to public service contributed to tangible improvements in infrastructure and accessibility, solidifying his reputation as a proactive leader.
From 2009 to 2018, Subodh Singh served under the leadership of the state’s three-time Chief Minister, Raman Singh, in the Chhattisgarh Secretariat. His tenure was marked by a series of strategic appointments, including roles as Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the Personnel and General Administration Department, Special Secretary and Director for Personnel Management, and Secretary to the Chief Minister. These positions allowed him to play a pivotal role in shaping the administrative framework of the state, influencing key policies and decision-making processes.
Subodh’s influence extended further as he took on significant responsibilities within the Chief Minister’s Office, managing the state’s electricity distribution agency, and serving as the Secretary of the Department of Mineral Resources, as well as the Secretary of Industries and Commerce. His career took a pivotal turn in 2020 when he accepted a central deputation, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to serving the nation on a broader scale. As of 2024, Subodh Kumar Singh held the esteemed position of Director General of the National Testing Agency, a role that underscored his dedication to upholding educational standards. However, his tenure was clouded by allegations of irregularities in the NEET and NET competitive exams, prompting a closer examination of his leadership during a critical period in the education sector.
