INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Born and raised in the tranquil town of Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, Shubhangi Atre’s journey into the world of acting began at an early age. From childhood, she felt a magnetic pull towards the performing arts, a passion that would shape her life and career. With an unwavering commitment to her dream, she never entertained alternative career paths; acting was her singular focus. Her dedication was evident even in her school years, where she forged a romantic relationship with Piyush Poorey, a fellow student. This youthful love culminated in marriage when she was just 19 years old, marking the beginning of a shared journey that would see them navigate both life’s challenges and triumphs together.
While still in her teens, Shubhangi ventured into the workforce, taking on her first job while in class 12, earning a modest salary of Rs. 300. Her early experiences included a print advertisement for a shampoo brand, which earned her Rs. 2,500—an encouraging start to her budding career. The path led her to Mumbai, where she received her first modeling consignment. With her daughter in a kangaroo bag, Shubhangi audaciously attended auditions, demonstrating her determination and resourcefulness. Her hard work paid off when she won the title of “Miss Madhya Pradesh” in 2003, a significant milestone that opened doors in the competitive world of entertainment.
After her marriage to Piyush, Shubhangi moved to Pune, embracing her new life while also adopting Poorey as her surname. A trained Kathak and Odissi dancer, she honed her skills and showcased her talent across various platforms. In 2007, while shooting for an advertisement, she caught the eye of renowned producer Ekta Kapoor, a pivotal moment that would propel her career forward. However, Shubhangi’s journey was not without its challenges; she has been candid about the strained dynamics she experienced with co-stars, notably Karan Patel during her time on the show “Kasturi.” In an interview, she expressed her discomfort, highlighting the complexities of working in an industry filled with diverse personalities.
The role of “Angoori Bhabhi” in the hit series “Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!” would become a defining chapter in Shubhangi’s career. After successfully auditioning among 80 contenders, she stepped into the shoes of a character that resonated with audiences, earning her widespread acclaim and numerous accolades. Despite criticisms, including accusations from Shilpa Shinde of mimicking her style, Shubhangi has remained true to her craft, developing her own unique approach to acting. To prepare for her role, she immersed herself in the nuances of her character, even listening to interviews of Rabri Devi to capture the right tone and dialect. As of 2024, Shubhangi plans to take a break from acting to support her daughter in settling in the United States, but she harbors aspirations of making her OTT debut with Ekta Kapoor’s ALTT.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Shubhangi leads a fulfilling personal life, characterized by her dedication to fitness and wellness. With a routine that includes yoga, intermittent fasting, and regular gym visits, she prioritizes her health while managing a demanding work schedule of 15 to 16 hours a day. A true Mumbaikar, she travels for two hours daily on the local train to reach her workplace, often sharing glimpses of her life on social media. Beyond her acting career, Shubhangi has lent her voice to animated films and has a passion for collecting earrings—boasting a collection of over 600 pairs. When she isn’t working or traveling, Shubhangi finds solace in her home’s balcony, where she enjoys quiet moments reflecting on her journey and the future that awaits her.
