INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Khan Sir, an influential figure in the realm of education in India, has garnered widespread recognition for his distinctive approach to teaching, particularly in the field of current affairs. He is the visionary founder of the Khan GS Research Centre, a platform that has become synonymous with quality education and innovative learning techniques. His journey toward becoming a celebrated educator was not without its challenges. While in school, Khan Sir aspired to join the Indian Army, preparing diligently for the entrance exam for Sainik School, but faced setbacks that marked the beginning of a tumultuous path. His aspirations continued as he attempted the entrance exam for polytechnic courses; however, he did not secure a favorable rank. During these formative years, he also engaged with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which provided him with a sense of discipline and camaraderie.
The path to success was fraught with obstacles, including a fateful day when he missed his IIT entrance examination due to a late night that resulted in him oversleeping. His determination did not waver as he later cleared the NDA examination, only to be disqualified in the physical round due to a medical condition. Following a series of disappointments in competitive exams, his father urged him to acquire practical skills, leading Khan Sir to learn welding and JCB driving. Despite these setbacks, the support of his friends Hemant, Sonu, and Pawan played a pivotal role in shaping his career. He began teaching at a local coaching institute, starting with a mere six students. However, his engaging teaching style quickly attracted more learners, and within no time, his class swelled to over 150 students. This popularity prompted the owner of the coaching institute to advise him to remain incognito to retain the students. It was during this time that he adopted the moniker “Khan Sir,” though his students also refer to him as Amit Singh.
In 2019, Khan Sir took the digital leap by launching his YouTube channel, Khan GS Research Centre, where he began sharing videos on a variety of societal issues, particularly current affairs. His unique teaching style, characterized by humor and relatable examples, resonated well with students, propelling his channel’s subscriber count to over 926,000. However, his journey was not without its challenges; the following year, he and his institute were subjected to violence when a group of boys attacked, leading to significant property damage. Despite such incidents, Khan Sir remained committed to his educational mission.
In addition to his online presence, he launched an app, Khan Sir Official, and gained acclaim for his societal contributions by establishing a Goshala for stray cows in Patna, along with a library. His principles of education are evident in his pricing model, where he charges a mere Rs 7,500 for UPSC preparation—a stark contrast to the typical fees of Rs 2.5 lakhs. He goes further to support financially disadvantaged students by offering free tuition to those in need. His dedication to education and community welfare gained further visibility when he appeared on Sony TV’s ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ where he shared insights about his teaching philosophy and garnered appreciation from renowned personalities like Amitabh Bachchan.
In 2023, Khan Sir celebrated Raksha Bandhan with an extraordinary event at his coaching center, where over 10,000 students participated, tying rakhis on him—a claim he humorously suggested might set a world record. Later that year, he made an appearance on the popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ captivating audiences with his ability to explain complex scientific concepts to Amitabh Bachchan, further solidifying his reputation as an engaging educator. Through his multifaceted career, Khan Sir continues to inspire countless students and remains a beacon of hope for those navigating the path to success.
