INTERESTING BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Jagdeep Singh’s journey into the world of law began with a solid educational foundation at Panjab University in Chandigarh, where he earned his law degree in 2000. Armed with this knowledge, he embarked on a career that would see him traverse both civil and criminal spheres at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh. His early experiences in the courtroom not only honed his legal acumen but also instilled in him a deep understanding of the complexities of justice, paving the way for his future endeavors in the judiciary.
In 2012, Singh’s dedication and expertise led him to join the Haryana Judicial Services, marking a significant milestone in his career. He was initially posted in Sonepat, where he continued to build his reputation as a diligent and committed judge. His professional journey took a notable turn in 2016 when he garnered media attention for his extraordinary act of bravery. While en route to Panchkula from Hissar, Singh selflessly intervened to save four individuals who were seriously injured in an accident, showcasing his commitment to public service beyond the confines of the courtroom.
Later that same year, Singh’s career reached a pivotal moment when he was appointed as a special judge in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court in Panchkula. This role placed him at the center of high-profile cases, and it was in August 2017 that he became a national hero. Singh faced immense pressure and a tense atmosphere as he walked into a courtroom filled with thousands of followers of the self-proclaimed godman, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Insan. Despite the challenges, he delivered a verdict that would resonate across the nation, declaring Ram Rahim guilty in a long-standing rape case involving two Sadhvis.
The gravity of Singh’s decision was further underscored when, later that month, he was flown to the Sonaria Jail in Rohtak to impose a sentence of 20 years of imprisonment on Ram Rahim, divided into two concurrent terms of ten years for each of the rape cases. Additionally, he ordered a fine of 14 lakh for each of the victims, solidifying his stance on justice and accountability. Jagdeep Singh’s unwavering commitment to the law and his courageous actions have not only defined his career but have also established him as a figure of integrity and resilience within the Indian judiciary.
