Undeterred, he pressed on and sought a seat in the Member of the Legislative Council elections in 1989 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, narrowly missing victory by just 14 votes. During this period, he was also a prominent student leader at K. S. Saket P. G. College in Ayodhya, where he further cultivated his leadership skills and political aspirations.
